50 PLUS PEOPLE IN SYDNEY BRAWL - 1 CHARGED
A man has been charged with affray, resisting arrest and assaulting police for his part in a large brawl in Sydney's CBD.
Officers were called to Bligh Street at about 1.50am on Sunday following reports of a brawl involving up to 50 people, which had spilled out of a hotel and onto the street.
While trying to break up the fights, a male senior officer was surrounded by a group of people, one of whom started throwing punches at the officer, forcing him to draw his Taser.
Two male constables were also assaulted while trying to stop the fights.
After officers eventually put an end to the brawl, they arrested a 32-year-old man from Rhodes and have charged him with two counts of assaulting police, one count of affray and one count of resisting arrest.
He was refused bail and is set to appear before Central Local Court on Monday.
Police will be issuing future court attendance notices to others involved in the brawl over the coming weeks.
The three officers who received minor injuries from the incident did not require medical treatment.
