- A man has been stabbed in the leg and slapped across the face by a woman after an alleged road-rage incident got way out of hand at Lakemba on Sunday afternoon.

The 26 year old victim claims he was bumped from behind by a white Honda Civic while driving along Croydon Street at 2.30pm.

He then followed the woman to get the vehicle registration when she did a u-turn, blocking his car, before jumping out and attacking.

She drove off, but police caught up with the 21 year old at a house on Kennedy Street. It all allegedly started after an argument about a car park earlier in the day.

- A man is in hospital after being shot outside a home in Merrylands last night.

One bullet pierced both of the 34 year old's legs on Yeend Street at 7.30pm, with the attack believed to have been sparked by a dispute over drugs.

We're being urged to sign up for a new Opal card.

From next Monday morning 14 ticket types won't be available at train stations around Sydney.

The Transport Minister says if you haven't joined the nearly 600-thousand people who've already signed up to the new system you'll be left stranded in lengthy queues.

- Nine residents of a Petersham boarding house have been evacuated after a suspicious fire ripped through the building around Monday Morning.

Hundreds of people have been treated for injuries, after parts of California's wine country were hit by the region's biggest earthquake in 25 years.

The magnitude-six tremor ignited fires, damaged historic buildings and sent people running into the streets of NAPA.

City Manager Mike Parness says 87 people are in hospital -- three in a critical condition.

- A British healthcare worker who contracted the Ebola virus while living in Sierra Leone is being flown to London for treatment.

While not seriously ill, the patient will be treated in an isolation unit.

The country's health officials say the risk of the virus spreading there is "very low".

- Reports UK authorities have identified the man behind the mask in the brutal execution of American journalist James Foley.

It's believed British intelligence agencies understand the murderer to be a 23-year old former rapper who left his wealthy family in west London last year to fight in Syria.


- Rapper Chris Brown has taken to Twitter angry about being the target of a shooting at an exclusive Hollywood nightclub.

Brown managed to avoid getting hit, but 3 others were shot including rap producer Shoog Knight, who was also shot at a pre-MTV VMA's party in 2005.


- British actor and film director, Sir Richard Attenborough has died aged 90.

The brother of naturalist David Attenborough, was most remembered for acting roles in Jurassic Park, Miracle on 34th Street, and the Great Escape.
