CRIMS TARGET CAB PASSENGERS
Detectives have foiled an elaborate credit-card skimming syndicate, targeting Sydney taxi passengers.
Officers swooped on a motel in Chullora and arrested four men, while uncovering 800 blank fraudulent credit cards, a card encoder, and a laptop.
It's believed the high-tech devises downloaded credit card data onto a computer, with duplicate fake cards able to be made.
"People need to be alert every time they use their credit or debit card," said Detective Superintendent John Watson.
"If you are a driver and you were approached by people asking you to use a skipping device .. please do the right thing and contact Crime Stoppers."
All four men – a 28-year-old from Sydney, a 28-year-old from Potts Point, a
24-year-old from Rockdale and a 56-year-old from Greenacre – were taken to
Bankstown Police Station.
